The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both,
I stood a long while at that fork,
And looked as far as I could down one road,
Until it vanished deep in the woods.
But I chose the other road,
It was grassy and very quiet,
And seemed more inviting and more beautiful;
Though on this little path,
Few travelers' footprints were left.
That morning the fallen leaves covered the ground,
Neither road had been soiled by footprints.
Ah, I kept one road for another day!
But I knew the path stretched on without end,
And I feared I would hardly ever return.
Perhaps many years later, somewhere,
I will sigh softly and look back on it all:
Two roads diverged in a wood—
And I chose the one with fewer traces of people,
And from then on that decided the road of my life.
